Welcome to the
Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County

For fifty years, the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County has been helping disadvantaged people improve their lives through equal access to justice. Last year, Legal Aid’s staff of twelve attorneys, many of whom are bilingual, provided free civil legal services to 1,360 families, representing 3,737 individuals.

Legal Aid is a private non-profit law firm providing civil legal services to low-income families, seniors, persons with disabilities, and domestic violence survivors in San Mateo County. Our office offers individual assistance, community education, and resolution of systemic problems to vulnerable San Mate County residents in the areas of health; housing and homelessness; family law and domestic violence; government benefits; and disability rights. We specialize in combining individual and policy-level advocacy to reduce disparities for the populations we serve.

"Justice consists not in being neutral between right and wrong, but in finding out the right and upholding it, wherever found, against the wrong."
~Theodore Roosevelt (1916)
