Services

We provide assistance in the areas of public benefits, family law, housing, consumer law and health care. In addition, we help with the legal problems faced by domestic violence survivors, teen parents, seniors, children and adults with disabilities. Many of the staff are bilingual in English and Spanish. Legal Aid also uses Language Line Services, which allows the staff to communicate in a variety of languages.

Children

The Peninsula Family Advocacy Program:
A Medical-Legal Partnership for Children

The Peninsula Family Advocacy Program: A Medical Legal-Partnership for Children works to improve the health and welfare of low-income children and their families by addressing the underlying legal causes of children's poor health. This program is a collaboration between the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital (LPCH), LPCH-affiliated clinics, and the Ravenswood Family Health Center. The Peninsula Family Advocacy Program: A Medical-Legal Partnership for Children provides legal advocacy and education to families whose children who are receiving medical care at these sites. http://www.peninsulaFAP.org

Children's HERO Project

The Children's Health Education, Representation and Outreach (HERO) Project helps children access the health care programs and services they need. The HERO Project also helps children access early intervention services if they are at risk for developmental disabilities or delays.

Disabilities

Clients' Rights Advocate
This project provides advocacy for persons with disabilities. We focus primarily on issues of eligibility, dur process rights, and access to public serivces and benefits.

KIC Project
The Kids in Crisis (KIC) Project assists children with disabilities and their families with questions about SSI, the Golden Gate Regional Center, California Children's Services and special education.

Family Law

Family Law Assistance
Legal Aid helps clients who are experiencing domestic violence and who are having custody / visitation problems.

The Health Consumer Center of San Mateo County (HCC) helps San Mateo County residents who have health care problems or questions. more...

Public Benefits

Public Benefits
Legal Aid offers assistance to San Mateo County residents who have issues concerning food stamps, General Assistance, CalWORKS, CAPI and Social Security/SSI.

Housing

HomeSavers
The HomeSavers Project helps tenants who are having problems with their landlords. Tenant clinics are held three times a week. To download the tenant clinic schedule please click here (pdf).

Seniors

CareGivers Legal Assistance Network
The CareGivers Legal Assistance Network provides free legal assistance to caregivers of seniors and senior caregivers of minor relatives.

Consumer/Debt Collection Service
The Consumer Financial Abuse Project helps seniors and, in some cases, people with disabilities with problems involving bills and debt collection.

Senior Advocates
The Senior Advocates project helps people age 60 and older who live in San Mateo County.

Teen Parents

Teen Parents
The Teen Parent Project can answer questions about child custody or visitation and protection from abuse.
