VOLUNTEER: HOW YOU CAN GIVE BACK

With the economic gap growing between the "haves" and "have nots" in San Mateo County, Legal Aid relies on over 300 pro bono volunteers each year to help disadvantaged residents improve their lives through equal access to justice. In 2009 alone, our volunteer team of attorneys, law students, and paralegals contributed over 12,000 hours in providing high quality civil legal services to low-income families.

CURRENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDS 2010

We are specifically in need of Spanish speaking volunteer attorneys to assist in various areas of law. We are also in need of attorneys and non-attorneys who can volunteer with our housing clinics which are held three times per week in Redwood City and Daly City. Please send your cover letter and resume to the Director of Pro Bono, Janet B. Seldon jbseldon@legalaidsmc.org and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Legal Aid offers volunteers the opportunity to apply their legal expertise and develop new skills through a variety of pro bono projects, from handling major litigation to staffing housing clinics. We provide training for all volunteers, who work under close supervision of our staff and mentors. Legal Aid is an approved MCLE provider by the State Bar of California, and our training sessions count towards MCLE requirements.

Read Pro Bono Opportunities and our FAQs for more information about how you can help, and our Testimonials to learn about volunteers’ experiences with Legal Aid. For more information, you may contact Director of Pro Bono Janet B. Seldon at jbseldon@legalaidsmc.org.
