Honoring a Legacy of Service: 2026 Carl L. McConnell Summer Law Student Fellowship at Legal Aid SMC

Legal Aid is proud to continue the legacy of public service through the Carl L. McConnell Fellowship. This paid fellowship opportunity was created in honor of Carl L. McConnell, an attorney and dedicated supporter of Legal Aid who devoted many years to advancing social justice and mentoring rising attorneys.

Now in its eighth year, the McConnell Fellowship has provided meaningful, hands-on experience to eight summer fellows, each carrying forward Carl’s commitment to public service law. The fellowship is made possible through the generosity of dedicated donors, including Carl’s friends and family and members of the legal community who share his values and vision.

This summer’s McConnell Fellow will work with Legal Aid’s LIBRE team, which connects immigrant families to critical resources throughout the county. Through the McConnell Fellowship, Legal Aid not only invests in the next generation of public interest lawyers, but also honors Carl McConnell’s enduring belief that our community is strengthened when we support the future advocates who will serve it.
